Use and Abuse of Drugs
I would like to begin by defining the meaning of the word
drug and in accordance to the Royal Spanish Academy. Drug is a substance with
stimulants, depressive, narcotic, and hallucinogens effects. Drug’s use and
abuse creates a significant dilemma which may conflict with many expression of
freedom.
I think using drugs does not benefit our bodies and mental
health. Nowadays, society seems to be inundated with many types of drugs. I
have known people who has used and abused of the consume of drugs and their
effects as well as how they get affected socially and mentally. I consider that
the use of alcohol has become a big problem among society. It’s a legal drug
which is accessible to people older than 18 years old. Young people should not have the ease to buy
alcohol until they reach a more mature age. Also, according to a Cuban study
drugs and alcohol abuse could cause neuronal disaster, inability to control
behavior, leads to schizophrenia and even becoming an antisocial individual.
I have had the opportunity to share with alcoholics and
cannabis consumer and now I see the most problematic the topic of alcohol and
is considered a legal drug and the cannabis cause a great of problem with its
use and not see that the fight against this type of substances create worst
social problems such as wars between communities to achieve distribution as
well as the corruption of those who govern us and "protect us".
I think that a double standard is handled in regard to
prohibition and also many more interests than just look for the "common
good" are handled. I do not think prohibition as a solution to problems,
only create more problems
The consumption of marijuana for example is well known that
this type of drug has therapeutic uses for people with diseases such as cancer
and reduce the nausea caused by chemotherapy or too AIDS treatments, also its
stimulating effect on appetite for diseases such anorexia, among other benefits
found in cannabis
Knowing what the abuse of drug and alcohol brings into
people’s lives, government organizations, and educational institutions should
offer more educational programs that bring more education against these social
major issues. Not only society plays a
important role in the education of drug abuse but ourselves should take the
first step by identifying when it becomes abuse. We should be self-conscious of
the effects and how our lives will be affected.
